WotR Miniatures and Tools

I’ve had quite a few requests from individuals about where to purchase some of the game components on amazon, so I thought it would make things a lot easier if the links were available in a single page where all your War of the Ring desires could be fulfilled! As I continue to find the individual components I’ll update this page.

War of the Ring Rule Book

Don’t forget that you can get profile updated PDFs on the Download Page, as well!

War of the Ring Trays & Tools

Set of 3 trays. The infantry trays measure 110mm wide by 60mm deep. Each base cutout measures 26mm circle and can accept both 25mm and 1 inch circle-based miniatures. The cavalry trays measure 90mm wide by 50mm deep for a standard GW 40mm circle based cavalry miniature. Each tray includes a base plate and top of 3mm thick plywood for a total thickness of 6mm. This thickness makes them easy to move and handle, saving you from handling your painted miniatures. The base cutouts are cut with extra space to allow for all varieties of 40mm circle bases. The trays are supplied preassembled and glued together, ready for painting and finishing.

WFMC Mobile - Art for Elven Kingdoms Companies and Formations of Various Supported Types [Part 3/11]

Next up is a couple of the Elf Formations, showing one of each type of formation that is supported in the current Elven Kingdom's list.

Starting over on the left, Glorfindel, Lord of the West is shown. He has all of his bane, hard to kill, striking order, etc... special rules as well. He is a monster formation that has the same base size as a cavalry model (similar to the cave troll). To his right is a formation of an Elven Chariot. This is one of the "new models" (i.e., one that was listed in Legions of Middle Earth that never had a model made or a profile, for that matter). Next, to the right, is a formation of Galadhrim Archers in 2x3 Configuration. As you can see (by the first icon under them), they have a Pathfinder included in the formation - in addition to their Pathfinder, Terror and Longbows (which are the other 3 icons). Next to the right is a formation of Galadhrim Knights in 5x2 Configuration. If you look at the profile for them, they have glaives in addition to their other special rules that are shown. Finally, at the bottom right is a 3x1 Configuration formation of Elven War Catapults.

So, there we go for Elves ... Still looking awesome! Also, I'm having a pretty good time with this, too - even though it is a little slow going.

WFMC Mobile - Art for The City of Dale Companies and Formations of Various Supported Types [Part 11/11]

Here is the set for The City of Dale! The army list is very short and mostly comprised of Infantry Formations. In fact, the only formation that is not an Infantry Formation is the Windlance (which is an Artillery Formation),

While this army does not have much in the way of variety ... I think it would still be entertaining to have a Dale vs Dwarf fight - just for fun! Or Dale vs Moria - I am sure the Monsterbane would then definitely come in handy.

WFMC Mobile - Art for Gondor and Arnor Companies and Formations of Various Supported Types [Part 1/11]

I was looking at my spreadsheet that I keep of all the blog posts that I write, and I noticed that it has been a few weeks since I've put anything new up. After my feeling of guilt for not posting any progress or updates that have been worked on I figured that I would give a little peek at the art that is going into WFMC Mobile for iPhone and iPad ... It is starting to come together and every time I dry-run it I get really excited!

So here we go - we will start with Gondor and Arnor! The army list is comprised of Infantry Formations, Cavalry Formations, Small Artillery Formations (the Bolt Thrower), and Large Artillery Formations (the Trebuchet).

As you can see in the image above, at the top-middle, I also have sprites for a Large Monsters and Small Monsters (although they currently do not exist in the Gondor and Arnor Army List ... yet ...). The formation on the left is the Avenger Bolt Thrower Formation comprised of 6 companies in 3x2 Configuration. The next formation (moving right) is Minas Tirith Warriors (with Standard Shields - hence the icon) comprised of 4 companies in 2x2 Configuration. The next formation is Minas Tirith Knights (with the Standard Shields Upgrade, Striking Order (Cavalry), Earth-shaking Charge, and Lances) comprised of 4 companies in 1x4 Configuration. The far right formation is the Battlecry Trebuchet Formation comprised of 3 companies in 2x2 Configuration.

I think it looks pretty sexy, if I can say so myself.

Any input, thoughts, concerns, suggestions or idea? As always they are all welcome!

WFMC - Continuing to Implement the Mobile Version on iPhone/iPad [Part 11/12]

I've made a little more head-way on the Mobile Version of WFMC and thought everyone would be interested to see some screenshots.

Here is the Launch Screen. Notice that it is similar to what was drawn out in Part 10/12 (as expected - lol). You can click on the "Play" label (as of right now the "Options" label is still disabled) and it takes you to the next Screen.

This is the Play Options screen. When you click on "Play" on the previous screen it brings you here. Similarly, the "Custom Play" option is still disabled and getting worked. Clicking on "Quick Play" takes you straight to the Priority Phase for the game.

This is the screen for the Priority Phase. The round at the top shows you which round it currently is - as well as who has the Priority from the previous round (marked with the One Ring). The players can click on the dice icon to "roll" and it will keep track of what values have been rolled. Likewise, the target button at the top right is the "Intervention" button that allows the "other player" to intervene with Might Modifications or other Active Special Rules that have applicability to the Priority Phase. The icon at the bottom right is the "Modify" button that allows the "current player" to intervene with Might Modifications to their roll. The door button at the bottom left is the "Done" button that allows the Priority Phase to be completed and move on to the Move Phase after both players have rolled for Priority and the victor for priority for the current round has been determined.

I have a screen for the Move and Magic Phase - but I just have not included them. The next screenshot is the Shoot Phase. Here, Player 2 has priority for the round, but the Isengard Formation doesn't have any ballistic capabilities, so then Player 1 gets to perform his shooting attacks. The Gondor Formation of Minas Tirith Archers are shooting at short range (you can't see it but the long range is actually a lighter shade of alpha'ed green. Also, notice that it is only showing the command company for range - this is something that needs to be fixed as well ... so that all 3 front companies are included when drawing in the "in range" cone.

Here is the Charge Phase. Again, Player 2 had the priority for the phase, but the Isengard Formation stalled its charge - so now the Gondor Formation can attempt to charge. Notice that it shows the "required roll value" by the shade of Red - where in this case a 4 is needed to reach the Isengard Formation dead on and a roll of 4-6 will "reach".

So, there we have it so far ... I know it doesn't look like much yet ... since it is still getting underway ... but, believe me, that was a lot of work just to get it to this point! Any thoughts, comments or suggestions are of course welcome. I look forward to what the greater community has to say.

WFMC - Starting the Implementation of the Mobile Version on iPhone/iPad [Part 10/12]

So, I was inspired and figured that I would use my Friday snow day starting the mobile application for WFMC that I was talking about ...

In the 8 hours that I had to spend working on the application, I was able to get the mobile version instantiated and get it to draw the formations in the proper configuration. You can also see that I have the dice rolling working and drawing to the screen. Even though it doesn't look like much, yet; I am pleased with the progress that has been made ... I can change the configuration of the formation and have it draw correctly. I also have it mark which company is the command company (outlined in Red). Just getting this far was a lot more work than I thought it would be! Continue to stay tuned ... I am sure that more will develop as going forward!

Updates and Extensions to the Rules for Fortunes - Steads of Pure Blood, Fate Smiles Upon You, Galadhrim Longbows, and Hero of the Hour [Part 5/24]

The next set of Fortunes contain nothing "new" but only some clarifications and edits to the Special Rules associated to them. The biggest change is for the Steeds of Pure Blood Fortune, where the value was changed from a static number to a +2" bonus. The remaining edits are fairly small.

The nicest part of the edits for these Fortunes is their new-found affordability! It is definitely a lot more of a temptation to bring one of these along for each 1000 points of your army now (and may actually allow your army to fill in the remaining point gaps to get to an even number).

Updates and Extensions to the Rules for Fortunes - Dragonbane Weapons, Wargbane Weapons, Cavalrybane Weapons, & Monsterbane Weapons [Part 4/24]

Next on the list is a full set of new fortunes. These help to close up the gap for the areas that still needed bane abilities against them. Notice also that it includes the two new type banes that are a little more costly due to their "awesomeness" factor - Cavalrybane and Monsterbane. If you have been keeping up with some of the other profiles on the blog, you would have noticed that these special rules have already been given to several heroes, as well.

So, let's get on with it ...

There is another week down the drain - I'm back from DC and can likely begin to focus and make more headway again! Thank you everyone for sticking with me and continuing to read and provide great feedback!

Updates and Extensions to the Rules for Fortunes - Orcbane Weapons, Manbane Weapons, Goblinbane Weapons, & Elfbane Weapons [Part 2/24]

Here are the next set of Fortunes that have been updated and extended. As you can see, there are some that have a straight cost associated with them and others that follow the convention for Hornblowers and Drummers (i.e., they are applied to the entire formation and have their cost associated with the number of companies contained within the formation). This makes these Fortunes seem more like upgrades to a company when building an Army - instead of ridiculously over-priced and unusable secondary thoughts.

For the sake of counting the number of Fortunes, Orcbane Weapons still counts as a single fortune - and applies to a single formation within the army. If you want more than one formation to have the Fortune, then you will still need to meet the point requirements to have 2 or more Fortunes within the Army.

So, there we have it ... you can see that we are making some good head-way and filling in the gaps as we go along.

Updates and Extensions to the Rules for Fortunes - Athelas, Indomnitable Defiance, & Seat of Ancient Power [Part 1/24]

The time has finally come to begin the unveiling of the updates for Fortunes and Fates - and what a perfect time of the year to do so, during the Holiday Season! So Happy Holidays everyone, where ever you may be - be safe and play on!

The updates are going to take several posts to get through everything. As you can see, I've followed the normal suit of format for these - similar to the profiles. I've also used the formula to calculate their new point cost (since the mass majority of them were extremely overpriced and hardly ever used). After all, Fates and Fortunes are simply Upgrades that can apply across all armies ... so they have been treated as thus.
