WFMC Mobile - Art for Forgotten Kingdoms' Companies and Formations of Various Supported Types [Part 5/11]

Next up is the set of art for the Forgotten Kingdoms' Formations. In the grand scheme of things - this poor army has not gotten its time in the lime light; which is a shame, because there is a lot behind this Army.

The Forgotten Kingdoms are another list that has had more than its fair share of updates to it (mostly due to the fact they house the Hobbits and they appear to have not included quite a few of the original profiles from SBG - including, surprisingly, Epic Heroes for Frodo and Sam).

Let's start at the top right and work around again ... In the top-right (within the water) is Bilbo Baggins the Burglar, using his Barrel Rider Upgrade and Special Rule. To his left is an XL Monster - this is Radagast on his Sleigh. There are actually two new XL Monster Heroes for this Army, now. Radagast on his Sleigh and Gandalf on his Cart. Up and to the left is a giant Infantry Formation of Hobbit Militia comprised of 9 companies in 5x2 Configuration. To the left of the giant formation is Tom Bombadil. He wanders around as a single model bringing music and joy to the Army. Down from Tom is an Ent ... and in the bottom-left corner is Gwaihir the Eagle. (Note that this is also the same base size for Treebeard.) To the right is The Fellowship of the Ring. Up and to the right are The Three Hunters. To their right and down is The Counsel of Wizardry; and finally to the right of them is The White Counsel.

So there we go! The List has a lot of custom Legendary Formations - and of course the Epic Heroes that are part of the Hobbit Militia formation are not shown, either. Hopefully this is making everyone even more excited for the up and coming WFMC Mobile.

Updates and Extensions to the Rules for Fates - Morgul Blades, Dark Shrine, & Entslayer [Part 10/24]

Now we get to move on to the Fate Updates! Evil gets their turn to obtain the special and new "toys" that the Fates can provide. Just like before, we have updated the point cost and the text to clarify the special rules. You should notice that Morgul Blades has had the static value of 4 changed to be a +2 bonus (that way it is more useful for those two-handed armed formations) and has had its points changed to be based upon the total number of companies within the formation - not just a flat cost. Also, Dark Shrine has been updated to be similar in rules to the Seat of Ancient Power Fortune, but it has a little additional boost, as well. And finally, there is Entslayer - which will provide the same role as Dragonslayer and Monsterslayer from the last post.

Everyone enjoy! Sorry I didn't get to post last week ... I've started a new "real life" job and it has been pre-occupying my time!

Status Update for Progress on Profile Creation and Army List Document Writing - Good Armies [Part 2a/13]

As promised, here are the current progress that I have made for putting together the new army lists with the updated profiles that have already been created for the missing models in WotR. It may be a little eye-straining, but the profiles are listed along the left column - grouped by Common Formations, Rare Formations, Legendary Formations, & Epic Heroes (exactly how they will show up in the "books" of profiles for each Army List). The missing profiles are those that are marked purple. Across the top are listed all the items that I am QA'ing (checking for quality assurance) as I am reviewing the files as they progress. The headers include:
      • Order Correct
      • Name Correct
      • Points Correct
      • Image Correct
      • Image Text Correct
      • Stats Correct
      • Type Correct
      • Company Size Ranges Correct
      • Wargear Correct
      • Command Correct
      • Special Rules Correct
      • Updated H2Kill Rule Used
      • Monster Striking Order
      • Cavalry Striking Order
      • Cavalry Charge
      • Unique Character/Unique Weapon
      • Heroic Actions Included
      • Epic Actions Included
      • Magic Included
      • Profile Proofread
      • Borders Correct
Each cell is marked with a Red No, a Green Yes, or a Yellow N/A. If the header item hasn't been implemented or verified it is marked Red, if it is completely correct it is marked Green - and if the profile does not have any applicability to a header (i.e. the profile is not a monster or cavalry) then they are marked Yellow.

      1) Gondor & Arnor

Here is a close-up of the profile list on the left:

As you already know (from the previous post) Gondor & Arnor's Army List is 100% complete. When finished it turned out be a 39 page document! Everything has been written and the only remaining thing to do is to create it and secure it via PDF and put it up on the downloads page. I'm considering putting up two versions - one that will be the colored version with mark-up and a second that will be "clean".

The current completion status for the 37 profiles within Gondor & Arnor: 100%

      2) The Kingdom of Rohan

Here is the profile list for the Men of Rohan:

The profiles for The Kingdom of Rohan are also 100% complete. Everything has been written and added to the document. It turned out to be 30 pages long with all the profiles included in the PDF. I still need to get it generated via a secure PDF and put it up on the downloads page . Go here to see the profiles that have been added!

The current completion status for the 25 profiles within The Kingdom of Rohan is: 100%

      3) The Elven Kingdoms

Here is the profile list for Elves:

The Army List for Elves is now complete. I have updated the profiles for the Guardians of the Havens, Haldir's Epic Hero, Celebrian and Celebrimbor. All new profiles have already been merged into the Army List.

The current completion status for the 47 profiles within The Elven Kingdoms is: 100%

      4) The Dwarf Holds

Here is the profile list for Dwarves:

The Army List for the Dwarves is the most incomplete right now for good armies - mostly because they have the most impact for new profiles that need to be merged into the list. The vanilla profiles for the Legendary Formations and Epic Heroes are already in, but there is still quite a bit of work to be done on this list. Truth be told - I suspect that this will be the list that everyone is most interested in.

The current completion status for the 51 profiles within The Dwarf Holds is: 76%

      5) The Forgotten Kingdoms

Here is the profile list for the Forgotten Kingdoms:

This is another list that requires a lot of updates. It surprises me that there were never even any profiles for Bilbo, Frodo, or Sam (other than in the Legendary Formation of the Fellowship).

The current completion status for the 44 profiles within The Forgotten Kingdoms is: 31%

      6) The City of Dale

Here is the profile list for the City of Dale:

This is an entirely new list. Originally, I had included these profiles in with the Dwarves - but that just didn't make sense ... since they were men and not dwarves ...While the list is relatively short, it is still a pretty awesome list none the less - and with the new models it'll be a beautiful and contemporary looking army on the battlefield.

The current completion status for the 8 profiles within The City of Dale is: 100%

WotR Magic - Updates to the Rules for the Spells of Ruin [Part 4/7]

The Spells of Ruin are strictly evil (even though it appears in the Good Army list for Saruman - I still consider him to be "Evil"). Here is the list of Magic Users that have access to the Spells of Ruin:

Furthermore, the spells of Ruin are the only spell set that have an Epic Action associated with them as well.

Here are the list of Epic Heroes that have access to the Epic Ruination Special Rule:

Here are the updates to the Spells of Ruin - first for Spell Mastery 1 Magic Users and then 2+ Users:

Notice that the Tremor Spell has been changed from formation to company and specifies the measurement distance from being measured from the spell caster's base.

The Forgotten Kingdoms Unit Cost Analysis - Good's Use of the Monster Hero Profile

I think we have a pretty good baseline, now, with the profile posts we have analyzed so far. Next up is The Forgotten Kingdoms. We have already seen the Monster Hero profile working within the Mordor analysis, and now it is the Good Guy's turn to "monster it up".

        THE FORGOTTEN KINGDOMS WARRIORS

I'm not sure if anyone has noticed this before, but there are only 4 companies of Warriors available to this army:
        • Hobbit Militia
        • Hobbit Archer Militia
        • Wardens of the Carrock
        • Woses Warband
It seems like this army was intended mostly to be used as Allies for other armies, and not necessarily its own stand alone army ... well, I guess that's not entirely true - you could field an army of Monsters and just storm around ... and now that we have "fixed" the "Hard to Kill!" rule, that might actually be more viable. It would be interesting to see a fielded 1500 Point Forgotten Kingdoms Army comprised of Hobbits (there would be a TON of them) and Monsters - but could you imagine forking out all the money needed to buy Hobbit Miniatures?!?

        THE FORGOTTEN KINGDOMS WARMACHINES

        Cost 5 Monsters:
        • Ent
        Cost 6 Monster Heroes:
        • Great Eagle
        • Tom Bombadil
        Cost 7 Monster Heroes:
        • Quickbeam
        • Beechbone
        Cost 10 Monster Heroes:
        • Treebeard
        • The Three Hunters
        • Gwaihir
        • The Fellowship of the Ring
        • The White Council
        • Council of Wizardry
        Keys:
        (C) = Common Formation, (R) = Rare Formation, (L) = Legendary Formation
        [I] = Infantry, [H] = Cavalry, [A] = Artillery, [M] = "Monster", [MH] = "Monster Hero"
        • (L) [MH] The Three Hunters - Underpriced by 34%
        • (L) [MH] Beechbone - Underpriced by 16%
        • (L) [MH] Quickbeam - Underpriced by 14%
        • (L) [MH] Gwaihir - Underpriced by 11%
        • (L) [I] Wardens of the Carrock - Underpriced by 10%
        • (C) [MH] Great Eagle - Underpriced by 10%
        • (L) [MH] Council of Wizardry - Underpriced by 8%
        • (L) [MH] Treebeard - Underpriced by 2%
        • (C) [M] Ent - Accurately Priced (0% deviation)
        • (L) [I] Woses Warband - Accurately Priced (0% deviation)
        • (L) [MH] The White Council - Overpriced by 8%
        • (L) [MH] The Fellowship of the Ring - Overpriced by 11%
        • (C) [I] Hobbit Militia - Overpriced by 100%
        • (L) [MH] Tom Bombadil - Overpriced by 111%
        • (C) [I] Hobbit Archer Militia - Overpriced by 200%
Wow, Hello Legendary Monster Heroes for cheap! Obviously if you want to play a lot of big monsters on the good side - this is definitely your army!

Applying the template from cheapest (weakest stat-wise) to most expensive (most powerful) gives:
        • 5 Points per Company:
          • (C) [I] Hobbit Militia
          • (C) [I] Hobbit Archer Militia
        • 25 Points per Company:
          • (L) [I] Woses Warband
        • 50 Points per Company:
          • (L) [I] Wardens of the Carrock
        • 95 Points:
          • (L) [MH] Tom Bombadil
        • 125 Points:
          • (C) [M] Ent
        • 155 Points:
          • (C) [MH] Great Eagle
        • 160 Points:
          • (L) [MH] Beechbone
        • 175 Points:
          • (L) [MH] Quickbeam
        • 225 Points:
          • (L) [MH] Gwaihir
        • 230 Points:
          • (L) [MH] Treebeard
        • 265 Points:
          • (L) [MH] The Three Hunters
        • 450 Points:
          • (L) [MH] The Fellowship of the Ring
        • 465 Points:
          • (L) [MH] The White Council
        • 545 Points:
          • (L) [MH] Council of Wizardry
Ahh, yes - much better! That makes a lot more sense seeing it laid out this way!

THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING UPGRADE

The upgrade that is available to The Fellowship of the Ring is Bill the Pony. Reading the special rule associated to Bill the Pony, he is basically an Epic Hornblower. We think that this upgrade should cost a total of 15 Points since all it does is provide a Move Value increase of +2 for a single company. Looking at the Hero Baseline Profile each point of Move Value would cost +/- 5 points (thus 10 Points for the +2 Move Value points and 5 because it is an upgrade).

        A NOTE ON GWAIHIR

It seems like whenever there is a Monster Hero that is worthy of being a "leader of monsters" (e.g., Treebeard or Mordor Troll Chieftain) they come along with a "<Race> Charge" special rule that applies to the race of which they are a member. It would make sense for Gwaihir to have the "Eagle Charge" special rule as well [in fact we have already included that in his cost above].

        THE FORGOTTEN KINGDOMS HEROES

        Key: (C) = Command Hero, (L) = Legendary Hero, (E) = Epic Hero
        • (E) Radagast the Brown - Underpriced by 33%
        • (E) Saruman the White - Underpriced by 31%
        • (L) Grimbeorn - Underpriced by 29%
        • (E) Gandalf the Grey - Underpriced by 27%
        • (L) Ghan-buri-ghan - Underpriced by 12%
        • (E) Gandalf the White - Underpriced by 2%
        • (C) Civic Leader HAM - Overpriced by 150%
        • (C) Civic Leader HM - Overpriced by 233%
Sorting by the cost calculated by the template from cheapest (weakest stat-wise) to most expensive (most powerful) - of course, all the awesome characters (Epic Heroes) are now at the bottom of the list … most powerful and most expensive (as we have seen time-and-again):
        • Heroes that should cost 15 Points:
          • (C) Civic Leader HM
        • Heroes that should cost 20 Points:
          • (C) Civic Leader HAM
        • Heroes that should cost 85 Points:
          • (L) Grimbeorn
          • (L) Ghan-buri-ghan
        • Heroes that should cost 240 Points:
          • (E) Radagast the Brown
        • Heroes that should cost 275 Points:
          • (E) Gandalf the Grey
        • Heroes that should cost 290 Points:
          • (E) Saruman the White
        • Heroes that should cost 305 Points:
          • (E) Gandalf the White
